Character Building

Our of our goals at Flight36 is to walk alongside moms and mentors to help God transform father-absent boys into strong men of integrity. This Leadership Academy curriculum is a powerful tool for you to open honest, thoughtful, growth-inspiring discussions on each of the 36 character-building principles.

Here are some guidelines and suggestions to help you get the most out of this program:

1. Try to allow at least 30 minutes for your weekly discussions. Eliminate distractions, so that both of you can focus on this quality time together.
   
   
2. Please remember to begin and end in prayer.
   
   
3. The questions we’ve provided are just an outline. Don’t feel you need to get to every question during every discussion. It’s just as important to let the conversation and ideas flow freely as it is to stick to the curriculum.
   
   
4. If a life situation presents an opportunity to discuss a particular topic, please do so. This material is meant to help boys navigate life, and there’s no better time than when real-life challenges occur.
   
   
5. At any point, if you feel your discussion is especially beneficial or you want to spend some extra time on one topic, feel free to extend the discussion over two or more weeks. If you both agree, you may also wish to return to a topic for review or further exploration.
   
   
6. Mentors and moms, we’ve included some extra guidance on some of the discussion questions. You may wish to take a few minutes before your discussion to read over this material.
   
   
7. Please make every effort to let the boy speak openly without fear of judgment. This can be a wonderful window of opportunity for you to understand his thoughts and feelings.
   
   
8. Whenever possible, let God and the Bible provide the answers to the questions. We can’t stress this enough: Let the Lord be your ally in raising and guiding this young man.
